REVEAL
Florence Price  |  Quartet No. 1
Jerod Impichchaachaaha' Tate | Pisachi
Ludwig van Beethoven | Quartet in C# minor, Op. 131

After hearing Beethoven’s Opus 131, Franz Schubert wondered, “What is left for us to write?” Indeed, that nineteenth-century cornerstone of the string quartet literature transcends the bounds of tradition and aspires to universal truths. This program celebrates the universality of our cherished art form, prefacing Beethoven with music by Florence Price, the first African-American woman to achieve renown as a composer of concert music; and Chickasaw composer Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate, whose Pisachi brings Hopi and Pueblo music into the realm of the classical string quartet.
