“The Jasper’s performances of both [Kernis and Debussy] are flawless in ensemble and intonation, expressively assured and beautifully balanced. The sound quality is first-rate.” Gramophone, September 2019

“[the Jasper Quartet’s] affinity with his music shines through in the way they inhabit its luminous flux and flow with effortless flair…A thoroughly enjoyable disc.” The Strad, September 2019

The Jasper String Quartet is delighted to announce their latest album, The Kernis Project: Debussy.

On June 7, 2019, Sono Luminus releases THE KERNIS PROJECT: DEBUSSY [DSL-92233], the third and final installment in the critically acclaimed Jasper String Quartet’s survey of string quartet music by Pulitzer, Grawemeyer, and double Grammy® Award-winning composer Aaron Jay Kernis.

Hailed as “sonically delightful and expressively compelling” (The Strad), the Jasper String Quartet’s newest recording pairs Debussy’s String Quartet in G Minor, Op. 10 with Kernis’s String Quartet No. 3 (“River”).

This album follows the Quartet’s previous release, Unbound, named by the New York Times as one of the 25 Best Classical Recordings of 2017.

The refinement, the beauty of tone — the rich, unified sonority — it reminded of eminences.

Precise and elegant, with power when needed; they bit into each phrase like biting into a crisp apple

The Jaspers… match their sounds perfectly, as if each swelling chord were coming out of a single, impossibly well-tuned organ, instead of four distinct instruments.

Exceptional
— The New Yorker
[The Jasper Quartet] plays with a confidence and comprehension way beyond their years. Every work they performed ... seemed to be their favorite and by the end of the evening they were audience favorites too.
